Welcome

The Hunt genealogy of this history can be traced to William Henry Hunt (abt 1833-January 30, 1902) and Alice Jewell both of Poplar, a surburb in East London that is situated in the Thames dockyards area. William was employed as a Ship's Sawyer.

Two of their sons, William Henry (1866-1902) and Thomas migrated to Australia in the mid 1870s. It is believed that they travelled from London to Port Adelaide on the ship 'Blackwell' arriving on October 25, 1861.

Thomas settled at Kalangadoo in South Australia and William Henry married Margaret Beattie and they settled at Glen Alvie, Gippsland, Victoria. One of their children was Alfred Thomas Hunt the great-grandfather of Marion Helen Clark (nee Hunt), the author of this web.

The Collings genealogy of this history can be traced to St. Mary's parish, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire at the end of the 17th century. The earliest record is of William Collings (abt 1688).

Thomas George Collings (1833-1909) was the eldest son of William Collings (b.abt.1804) and Sarah Cope of 6 Kensington Place, London. He married Clara Elizabeth Pearce on December 2,1855 in London. At that time his residence was 1 Kensington Place, London and his occupation was listed as a Dyer. He was buried in the Box Hill Cemetery on Mary 24, 1909.

Thomas George and Clara Elizabeth migrated to Australia in 1866 with their 4 children and returned to Colchester between 1873 and 1876. In 1879 the family, then having 9 children, one being Amelia Madeline, returned to Australia from London on the 'Hampshire'. It is known that the family lived in St. Kilda at one time and in 1893 were living on a farm at South Wandin, Victoria, Australia.

These two families came together when Alfred Thomas Hunt (1866-1911) married Amelia Madeline Collings (1870-1943) in 1890.

The Foley genealogy of this history can be traced to James Foley (Shoemaker) and Ann MacAlister (born c.1810). Ann MacAlister came to Australia in 1843 on the 'Woodbridge' to serve a 7 year sentence for shoplifting. Her son, Thomas, then 4 years old, accompanied her. Thomas is the great-grandfather of Marion Helen Clark (nee Hunt) the author of this web.
